How much time do I need?

To attend this course, you should have a keen interest in writing picture books and commit to dedicate at least 8-10 hours a month during the three-month period of November 2024–January 2025. Active participation is an important component of this course in order to make the most progress. It will also help you to create a picture book draft by the end of the course. However, we know that life gets in the way and sometimes, you just need a bit more time to cook up your book. That’s why the course recordings will be available for a year afterwards, so you can go at your own pace and revisit modules. Modules will be available until December 2025.

I have never written a picture book, should I take this course?

Yes, this is the ideal starting place for exploring the genre, learning key craft tools and understanding the publishing industry. The course will walk you step-by-step through the process of creating a first draft.

I am an illustrator, can I benefit from this course?

Yes! You will learn key aspects of picture book craft and the publishing marketplace that will empower you to create commercial picture books. If you’re interested in writing and illustrating, the course will provide you with key tools to kick-start your journey.

Will I get feedback on my manuscripts and story ideas?

Editorial Reviews are not a component of this course, but course participants will have access to six Q & A sessions during which you can ask questions and build your knowledge of picture books and the industry. I am offering an exclusive opportunity to get personalized support with your premise and manuscript (only six slots available!). You can also book a Detailed Editorial Review of your manuscript, a Pitch Package (help with your query letter and pitch), and a 1-1 coaching call at a specially discounted price for course participants at check-out.

Do I have to attend live? Will the sessions be recorded?

We recommend you attend live for maximum accountability and to ensure you are able to create your picture book draft by the end of the course. But we understand life gets in the way sometimes! So, the sessions are all recorded. The recordings will be made available following each live session and you will have access to them until 31 December 2025.

I have already taken other picture book courses. What's new that can I learn?

You will benefit from a comprehensive overview of all the key craft elements required to create a commercial picture book and find your unique voice, gain access to tools for life and insider tips in modules taught by an experienced editor. You can ask questions to help you strengthen your book pre-submission to avoid rejections, gain clarity about whether your book is ready for submission, and walk away with a deeper understanding of elements required to create a standout book from an expert.

I have already self-published a book, is this course for me?

Yes! Deepening your knowledge of what makes a commercial picture book stand out and gaining insights into the current picture book marketplace is a continuum. This course will equip you with all the key craft tools to level up future projects and make them even more commercial.

Question I still have questions or doubts. Can I email you?
